Some statistics:
Australia has about 12.5% of its highly skilled workers living overseas.
Canada has about a low 3.5% of its highly skilled workers living overseas.
United Kingdom has about 8.5% of its highly skilled workers living overseas.
New Zealand has about 24.5% of its highly skilled workers living overseas.
United States of America has 1.5% of its highly skilled workers living overseas.
Republic of Ireland has 16.5% of its highly skilled workers living overseas.

Whats wrong with New Zealand and why can't expats who are about to be expats can't just embrace and be happy what they have at home without having to leave? please explain?

Along with the above reasons I think it is also relatively easy for people from NZ to move overseas. They can move to Australia without a permit, and as it is a common wealth, it is much easier to get a visa to the UK, Canada, and other commonwealths than it is for people from other nations.

I think the main reason that the US's expat rate is so low is b/c it is nearly impossible for Americans to get visa's to other industrialized nations. There are no 'working holidays' or young person's work programs (probably bc the US will not reciprocate and offer the same programs to foreigners coming into the US...)

Surely youve heard....the money!!!

New Zealand is one of (if not the most) beautiful places in the world, but if youre from New Zealand,as I am, you will know that you work hard and dont have much left at the end of the day after the bills come out.

Doing the same work I do back home,I can earn more overseas, and as a bonus extra again because of the exchange rate...and the big thing....most kiwis are curious and love to travel...thats why I started travelling 20 years ago now,and Ive spent half of my career overseas.I still love NZ, but when I have the opportunity to travel, experience new and exciting things, and as a bonus, make better money than I would if I stayed home, then its a win,win situation really.

Travelling the world is awesome....I truely recommend it to everyone!

It's very easy to say they leave for the money. I am not sure that is really the case. New Zealanders have a pioneering, adventurous spirit (that's how the country got established). Also New Zealand is a small standalone island nation and curiousity prevails. However a high proportion end up coming back "home".

Because smart people leave and that means it's only the stupid ones left and that makes the place suck, so more people leave. Then there is the fact that so many people in NZ don't really speak English. NZ has become an over priced 3rd world country. If you have brains and speak English why would you stay in a place that doesn't? Plus NZ is more violent than NY city! Then there is the fact that NZ has no free speech, no free press and no right to trial by jury.

There is nothing wrong with New Zealand. We are a caring race of people. We like to help other nations of the world. A Prime Minister of ours by the name of Rob Muldoon once said that for every New Zealander that moved to Australia, that person raised the I.Q of both countries. That is why you find so many of us travelling overseas. We are the most travelled people per head of population.

If you are comparing NZ to Australia - Australia pays better than NZ - has better social welfare state (but is more of a nanny state). New Zealanders believe more than in alternative medicine than Aussie hence why TGA is not here. NZers are better informed - as they travel more.

I think it is because so many Kiwis se it as such a small country and limited opportunity.

I for one like living here in NZ.
