It is the torrent websites that are the issue eg isohunt.com, not legal websites like youtube, tvnz, tv3 etc

They are only really monitoring p2p, which means bittorrent, frostwire etc.
I far as I've heard nobody had even been sent a notice yet, I wouldn't worry too much about the law to be honest

I too am confused. I've just finished (10minutes ago) watching the latest Dr Who episode on Prime TV. That was legal. If I had recorded it to watch later on video or a hard drive recorder, that also would have been legal. Keep in mind this was on free to air TV so I've not had to pay for it. Yet if I download it via utorrent then I'm breaking the law???..... anyone able to clarify!

TVNZ On Demand, and Sky on Demand are legal as they are allowing you to watch the programmes on their network, however I don't know about the other websites.

They only fine you if the company or shareholder catches you personally. THE END.

Streaming is never illegal. Downloading is. So no, tvnz isn't illegal and same goes to megavideo.

As per usual, the media make a hash of things when it comes to reporting what's what.
The companies whose material is being downloaded and then uploaded, 'shared' etc have to notify the ISPs who what and when. The ISP has to track the 'offender' (massively time-consuming), and issue an infringement notice. They allow for two notices to be issued before a 'cease and desist' type order goes out, and then maybe it *might* end up in court.
Very tedious to have to track anyone, and I suspect barely worth the pursuit. It takes the engineers weeks just to be able to trace nuisance calls.
Those who are file-sharing will carry on as normal.
