is the practise exam on the back of the road code the same exam you take for a learner's driver license?

It would be similar but not the same. It'll take time and practise so keep practising. I found this website to be really useful, it's better than any other online road code test as it has got more questions: http://www.nzdriving.com/

The test will have a selection of those questions that are at the back of the road code.
Basically if you have studied them, you'll be fine!
I also found the online test on the AA website really helpful. It's mostly the same stuff in the latest version of the road code. You can also buy practice scratch papers from the AA sites.
Good luck :)

The questions that are in latest road code will be the questions in the test for the learners exam,
there are 350 questions in total, these are online at:
with a direct link to each road code section in which the question relates to.
Official Practice tests can be purchased in combinations of 5, 10 or 20 tests for between $12.50 and $20 on www.roadcodepractice.co.nz. these are official combinations of the questions..
Another free multichoice based format site is http://www.communitylaw.org.nz/index.php?id=259
I hope this helps and good luck on your test :)

In the edition I have (though that's 2006, so possibly out of date) there was a relatively large section of questions, is this what you mean?
If it is, then yes, but don't worry! You won't get every single one of those questions to answer. Those are just the questions that they select from. If memory serves me correctly, the computer randomly picks 30 (I think) questions either similar to or exactly the same as the ones in the book. That is, it picks some from the many that are there.
I hope this helps you out.

No, it's not the same, but it's wise to know the answers to most of those questions anyway, as they're similar :)
