Ok so this is my first time. I am the eldest of a family of 7. We want to go to NZ and get a beach house or any rental and stay for 2 weeks. I was wondering which cities are the best with the most things to do? Where can i get the most out of my trip?

Hi Zeiinab,
According to my personal experience and online reviews, Auckland is the best city when we talk about NZ. I have been to the city a couple of years ago with my family and found it to be a perfect holiday destination with loads of attractions for everyone. The sky tower, Auckland Zoo, Waiheke islands, Rainbow's end and black sand beaches are some of the attractions for which the city is known.
I would also suggest you to rent a car. Since you are a family of seven, it will be much easier and convenient for you people travel to these world class attractions. Look for companies like Hertz or others which offer 7 seater vehicles. Ahh...i got it...this will be of great help to you.
Look for the Group K Kia carnival vehicle, will be perfect for your family. Have a great trip :)

Auckland is the biggest city for both size and population. The Hauraki Gulf has numerous beaches and various baches (cribs) you can rent out. The I-Sites (info sites) are the best places to start. It's really a lot more information than I can provide in an answer.
You may want to venture further north, to the Bay of Islands and Russell or Kerikeri, or even right to the tip of the North Island.
The sea isn't warm at this time of year, so at least bring partial wetsuits.

I would also have to say Auckland, if you don't intend on actually traveling the country. It has the most things to do of all the cities. There are lots of beaches and other natural sightseeing locations like the Waitakere/Hunua Ranges, waterfalls, volcanic domes and island reserves. Plenty of attractions, activities and things to do at night. It's also a good base to take a day or two getaway to places like Paihia or Taupo. If you are all about the beach and scenery then Bay of Plenty is a nice spot.

Lonely Planet has listed Auckland as in the top cities in the world to visit.Wellington,I regard as a must see destination, very compact and no visit to N.Z is complete without a few days in Queenstown.
As N.Z is only about 1800 kms long,it doesn't take long to see all of the most popular destinations.
