Working and living in New Zealand on holiday?

I am thinking about spending a year in NZ. I would like to travel around a fair bit, and have a mortgage to pay off my place here, so I need to make enough money.
I just want to know how easy it is to find temporary work in parts of NZ, like maybe staying 2-3 months at a time....
I haven't got much work experience. I have just been an accountant for 3-4 years, so I guess I could handle office-type work, and willing to do waitressing or dishwashing, cleaning - anything really (within reason!) to make around $NZ 300-500 per week

Is this very possible??

Kiwifruit Seasonal work

You could do kiwifruit in main season, unfortunately main season has just finished.

In the Bay of plenty around end march each year the beginning of main season kiwifruit starts, it is quit easy getting a job at one of the many pack houses (providing you have th right working documents) at this time and a lot of the locals just take on boarders so cheap rent and all amenities are there for you. The main season normally runs til june and then after this is repack a lot of staff get asked to put their name to stay on for this and that goes til about august depending on orders. Depending on what job you do is how much you will get paid with a minimum of 12.50 an hour. Depending on the pack house company shifts range from an 8 hour shift to 12 hour.

So you would defiantly make your target of 300NZD

You may want to consider it for next year.

NZ has got plenty of unskilled and skilled labour to fill any of those jobs at the moment so I would say good luck getting a job.

Minimum wage is $12.50 and I know office temps get $15-$18 as for waitress's or dishwasher, cleaning Id be guessing as to what they earn a hour, your an accountant so you can do the math on how many hours you would have to work to get the $$$$ you need.

Not at the moment! Times are tough and jobs are scarce.

NZ's not the place you come to to make money, you come here for lifestyle. You are unlikely to make enough to pay your way around here AND pay a mortgage back home.
